Smoking is a terrible habit, and we all know it. But after you’ve started it’s very addicting and the habit is difficult to break. Some smokers try many times to quit, but become so discouraged by failure that they resign themselves to the idea that they can’t do it. Some smokers may be afraid to quit because they feel that it requires a large change immediately. Some may choose to quit all at once, but you do not have to. Some may try to quit all at once, experience a set-back, and give up. Don’t let this be you. You have to keep at it.
Don’t be the person who says “I’ll quit smoking when…” The world is full of those people, and they all have one thing in common: they are still smoking, and not doing anything about it. Commit to change now. Do something to work toward your goal, no matter how small.
Tell those around you about your goal to quit. Their support may be helpful. You may be able to find creative ways that your friends and family members can work with you and hold you accountable.
Treat yourself when you stick to your goal. If you smoked less this week than last week, use the money you saved to buy yourself something small as a reward. You can also hold onto the money you save and buy yourself a bigger reward later. One of the eventual goals of quitting is to save money, but while your still working on it make sure you reward yourself for progress.
The tips above should at least get you started on the right track to quitting. Above all remember that set-backs do not equal failure. If you stick with quitting, you will reach your goal in time.
