It was thought that cigarettes in the early’00’s helped people. Doctors handed them out to the patients like the were pills. They were unaware of its addiction to people and the deadly harm smoking can cause over the years. Now we know of the addiction. Now we have to stop. You can quit smoking even without NRT.

Needless to say people smoke. I was a smoker. I never thought about the health risk the and all the other downfalls smoking brought. I just loved the instant gratification. Plus, after six years I realized I had become addicted to smoking and I need to stop. I remember when I first started, I never thought I would become addicted. I thought I was stronger then that. You never know how addicting cigarettes are until you are addicted.

I know how hard it is to quit. It took me over three months to fully be okay without cigarettes. There are hundreds of plans and programs to quit smoking. One thing is needs to be consistent in all these plans. That one thing is you. One cannot be on the fence about quitting. A commitment must be made.

NRT is Nicotine Replacement Therapy. This is one of the common methods to choose when quitting. There are many different forms of NRT the patch, gum, electronic cigarette, even pills. I tried a variety of them. All had there advantages and disadvantages. I would not smoke for a couple of days, then out of the blue I would buy another pack.

With NRT nicotine was still in my body. It was a low dose. This made it a taste, a tease if you will. This made me want a cigarette more then not smoking at all. I found out soon after the best way for me was to quit with no help of the NRT. Cold Turkey.

If you decide to quit smoking without the use of NRT there are five tips you should be aware of. These tips may just safe you from falling back into the habit. First off take smoking one day at a time. It’s hard to think when your still in the stage of being a smoker you will never have another cigarette again. Just take it one day at a time. Drink lots of juices during the first week of quitting. This helps clean out the nicotine in your system. Go for a run, or to the gym. This will get your mind off smoking and make you feel the effects of smoking. Trust me, you will not want to light up after a long day spent at the gym. When you get a craving practice breathe slowly act is if you are smoking a cigarette, of course without a cigarette. And lastly be happy that you are not smoking. Its hard to quit, but you have to keep in mind the reason why you are quitting.

Not smoking is tough. It really is a battle. Doing it cold turkey is not fun. But in the long run you have a better chance sticking with it. Nicotine is a physical addiction. Your body needs it after having it for so long. The withdrawals last physically between four to seven days. Then the mind and psychological addiction will last for two weeks to a month. It all depends on the smoker.

It’s hard to tell when to quit with NRT. Your body doesn’t know when the nicotine is going to stop. It seems to me the easiest way to relapse is when you are not sure how the NRT is working. Yet, I have heard and seen many success stories with the help on NRT. But its not for everyone, and that doesn’t mean that quitting isn’t for you.
