Quitting Smoking And Feeling Better Today

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

Smoking makes some people feel better, that it tricks you into feeling less strain and helps them to function better in their everyday lives. However, what they do not realize is that among the myriad of health issues associated with smoking, and increased heart rate is one of them which can result in a person feeling more stressed, which in turn sends them running outside for yet another cigarette, carrying on a wicked cycle. Lots of people are looking for the easy way to quit smoking or else they are not going to bother to try, but the bottom line is smoking is an addiction for many people, and easy may not be the best way to describe the stop smoking process.

If you are having a hard time quitting smoking then it may be time for you to look at the big picture where smoking is concerned. Cancer is caused by smoking, yet people are still taking their chances. Here is the problem, however, lung cancer has a very low survival rate, the reason for this is because symptoms do not present themselves until the disease has spread throughout the lungs and the body, and then it’s too late.

1. Ask why you are smoking. Do you smoke when you feel stressed? Do you need a cigarette after your meals? Identify the situation when you crave for a cigarette and avoid it when the urge to smoke arises. If you have the habit of smoking at certain places, stay away, especially drinking places.

2. Give up on a dime. This takes a lot of self-will as you are going to give up your nicotine addiction immediately. You will probably fail because the urge to smoke is too great. However, for strong minded, it is really quick.

3. Exercise. It will get you to believe of something else. Exercise helps your body to perspire and in the process, flush out those toxins that have accumulated in your body over the years.

4. Using Nicotine Replacement Therapy. You may have seen things like gum, inhalers, even water on the market. These products contain nicotine and act as cigarette alternatives. The good thing about using nicotine replacement therapy is that you can slowly reduce the nicotine dose until you no longer need it. However, it still give you the habit-forming nicotine, or turn back to cigarettes.

Whatever ways to quit smoking you try, you should remember that the first couple of weeks will be the hardest. Your body is going to go through natural cravings for the chemicals and pollutants contained in cigarettes. Nicotine interacts with your body’s chemistry and releases blood sugars. If the nicotine has been removed, the blood sugars fall, which gives you the craving for things that are sweet. So do yourself a favor and keep your blood sugar regulated with healthy foods not candy. Trying a diet of low GI food when you stop smoking will help you to master your cravings.

5 Habits That Will Help You Stop Smoking

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

I used to be a heavy smoker and for a long time I struggled with quitting. I would often quit smoking on a Monday and be right back at it by Friday. My record was three weeks before I went back. I never really was aware of what it was that made me go back to smoking but it seemed to happen right under my nose without even thinking about it.

Many smokers use cigarettes as a way of relaxing and relieving the stress in their lives. Lighting up is a signal to the brain that it’s time to unwind. I realized that I needed to come up with some new habits that would help me relax without all the harmful side effects of smoking.

Here’s what I came up with to help me get cigarettes out of my life:

1. Exercise – Exercise is not a luxury, it’s something you need on a regular basis to stay healthy. As an added benefit, it’s a great stress reliever and can help you quit smoking.

2. Meditation – Meditation techniques such as Tai Chi and Yoga has been proven for hundreds of years to boost energy levels and release stress.

3. Soak in a hot bath – You don’t need an expensive hot tub to get the benefits of relaxing in a soothing bath. Great way to relieve stress and get some relaxation.

4. Reading – Most people don’t think of reading as a way to quit smoking but it’s a good way to keep your hands busy while absorbing your mind in a good story.

5. Go for a massage – Feel the stress coming right out of your body. You’re so relaxed afterward that you may need a nap.

These are just some of the things you can substitute for smoking that will satisfy your need for stress relief and relaxation. Give a couple of them a try and I’m sure you’ll be on the way to smoking less. Get them all in and you’ll be halfway there to forgetting about cigarettes forever.

There are many ways to cease smoking. If you think you are that determined to quit smoking now, then read on! You do not have to smoke. I know, quitting can be difficult. But here are a few ways to quit smoking that might make things easier for you.

People will also find you good to be with, as some are scared of inhaling smokes and actually being a second hand smoker. And being in informal situations can be good again. You can get to being around individuals again, who don’t smoke.

There is a way for an individual to be able to get rid of this negative habit, and that is by slowly quitting it. This method proves to be effective, as opposed to going cold turkey. When you start this method and do it on a regular basis, it actually does not matter whether you are used to smoking more than one pack a day. But when you actually take a cigarette away every day, you will be astonished at how suddenly the urge to smoke more is no longer there.

This is a great way to allow your body to kick the habit. If it’s actually difficult, you can instead remove a few every few days. As long as you feel comfortable in doing the quitting part, then do it.

Consider the strength of your will power with quitting. Yes! You are reading this one right. Using your will power to just smoke a half cigarette can be very helpful. This will actually help you build confidence that indeed, stopping is doable for you. Those that are serious will cease while those that have a weak mind, may relapse. You can actually do this with my first suggestion.

Maybe you should think about hanging out with people that don’t smoke. Your family (most especially your kids), your anti-smoking friends or neighbors, and the list go on and on. In doing this step, you are consciously forced to stop smoking. You can also avoid going to places where they actually allow you to smoke. This can help you keep your mind of off smoking.
